The Fox Mill Neighborhood Clean-Up Week from August 16th to August 22nd was a great success. While the neighborhood is in good condition, there was trash, broken glass, and plastic scattered in our natural environment. We had an amazing group of volunteers – young and old – helping to keep our “back yard” clean and healthy!
A special thank you to our Crew Leaders for organizing crews and monitoring the cleanup. Crew leaders made sure that volunteers had yard work gloves, and brought trash bags and bug spray.
Below are the clean up projects:
- Viking/Kettering Tot Lot and gazebo (Crew Leader: Cindy Workosky)
- Donald Seay playground and gazebo (Crew Leader: John Cantrell & Family)
- Fox Mill Pool parking lot and around tennis courts (Crew Leader: Kristi Bordovsky)
- Pinecrest Pool parking lot and around tennis courts (Crew Leader: Blake Fox)
- Blake reported five volunteers came to help and were able to fill three trash bags before the rain came.
- Creek: Kettering to the bottom of Tewksbury (Crew Leader: Josh Anderson)
- Creek: Donald Seay Playground to Fairfax County Parkway (Crew Leader: Trish Atkins)
- Sledding hill/pipeline area (Crew Leader: Brian Pellerin)
- The Pellerin family reported that the sledding hill was in pretty good shape to start, which is great news. 10 people came out and really did some detail work.
- The cleanup was followed by an intense kids vs. adults kickball game on the field. Sadly, the kids crushed their parents, 14-3, but, thankfully, no injuries were reported.
- Fox Mill Elementary School parking lots, field and playground (Crew leader: Seth Edwards)
As Seth noted, if the volunteers didn’t have masks on, you would have seen happy faces. This small activity helped get our community back together. Thanks for volunteering for the cleanup.
